Response Spectra for Differential Motion of Columns

چکیده
The common modeling assumptions in analyses of structural response considering the effects of soil-structure interaction are discussed, as well as their consequences. Issues such as spatial variability of strong ground motion and flexibility of building foundations are specifically addressed. Results are shown for the case when spatial variability is considered, but inertia interaction and kinematic interaction between the different footings is neglected. INTRODUCTION

Response of Buildings with Inclined First-Story Columns to Near-Fault Ground Motion
In this paper a simple model of a three story building with inclined first-story columns has presented. The stories are supposed to be rigid and are connected to axially rigid mass less columns by elasto-plastic rotational springs and linear rotational dampers. The considered model is subjected to horizontal component of fault normal pulse with different magnitudes and the governed nonlinear di...
متن کاملA Numerical Evaluation of Seismic Response of Shallow Soil Deposits
This paper employs one-dimensional numerical ground response analysis models to investigate seismic response of shallow cohesive and non-cohesive soil deposits on vertical propagation of horizontal shear waves. Soil response is modelled by traditional equivalent-linear (EL) frequency-domain analysis using DEEPSOIL software and nonlinear (NL) time-domain analysis using OPENSEES software. The ana...
متن کاملPerformance of Mid-rise Buildings with Tubular Structure Under the Effect of Near Field Earthquakes
The aim objective of this study is to investigate the effects of near-field earthquakes on the response of mid-rise buildings with tubular structure. For this purpose, a 20-story building with a square plan of six by six bays, all with 6 m span, and story height of 3.70 m is considered. Axial force of columns, shear lag, and inter-story drift values are used as the main response parameters. N...
متن کاملESTIMATING THE STRONG-MOTION OF THE DECEMBER 26, 2003 BAM (IRAN), EARTHQUAKE USING STOCHASTIC TECHNIQUES
Abstract : The main objective of this study is estimating the strong motion for the Bam region using the stochastically based seismological models. The two widely used synthetic techniques namely point-source and finite-fault were utilized incorporating the source-path and site parameters into simple function. The decay factor kappa was estimated based on the data obtained from recorded stron...
متن کاملImprovement of Iranian Seismic Design Code Considering the Near-Fault Effects
Characteristics of ground motions close to the earthquake source can be considerably different from those of far-field motions which should be considered in design process of structures. The current study aimed to present new design response spectra for Iranian seismic design code taking into account the near-fault effects. For this purpose, a new attenuation relation based on the ground motion...
